Psychotherapy with Stuart Moore, LCSW Psychotherapy

Who I work with:

Are you feeling broken, confused, or stuck? Have you tried again and again to find solutions, only to end up more exhausted and isolated? Life can be beautiful at times, but it can also hurt like hell.

As your psychotherapist, I will guide you on a journey deep within yourself, helping you uncover strengths and resources that lie beyond your current awareness—even beyond your dreams. Your symptoms—whether they manifest as depression, anxiety, grief, or other challenges—are the trailhead. Together, we will embark on a hero's journey toward freedom from suffering and the possibility of true healing.

You may have told yourself that healing isn’t possible, that it’s something you gave up on long ago. But I can assure you—it is possible. Bring your skepticism, your doubts, your fears, and your apprehensions with you. They are all welcome, and they all belong.

How I work:

I use the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of therapy, which can best be described through Walt Whitman’s words: "Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself; I am large, I contain multitudes." In IFS, we work with all your parts—including the part that doesn’t want to be in therapy, the part that doesn’t trust therapists, and the part that believes, “This might work for others, but it won’t work for me.”

As your therapist, I will listen with reverence to all the stories that make up your life. Together, we will explore your inner world, inviting you to close your eyes, if you choose, and discover what lies within. You might be surprised by what we find.

Carl Jung once said, “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” He also observed, “The meeting of two personalities is like the meeting of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”

I look forward to meeting you, awakening with you, and transforming with you.

How does IFS differ from CBT

So there is a technique called the 5-3-Now technique from CBT.  In this technique if you notice that you are upset, you ask yourself three questions.  Will this matter in five years? Will it matter in three years? Does it matter now?  That can be helpful in some ways but when looked at closely, it tends to minimize the issue that the person is dealing with. In IFS we attempt to get that part that is upset and get to know it.  Maybe we find out that it is a young part.  Then we help the client to care for that part.  Image a five year old child crying in front of  you, you wouldn't say to that child, "Will this matter in five years..."

My bio:

I have been practicing psychotherapy now for almost 30 years.  I have a graduate degree in social work.
